Available from May through to September the Three Day Winter Package includes Picton accommodation transfers, daily luggage transfers from lodge to lodge, water taxi transfers to and from the track, packed lunches, private land track passes, an information kit and all accommodation.
The standard accommodation are Cottages at Furneaux Lodge and Koru units at Punga Cove Resort. All rooms are twin share and have attached private en suites. These rooms do not have cooking facilities.
A packed lunch is included each day and generally consists of a filled roll or sandwich, a muesli bar or muffin, a piece of cake or similar, some trail mix and a piece of fruit such as an apple or orange. If you think that you would like more than this you are able to bring a long your own snacks but please note that there is nowhere along the track during the day where you can purchase additional food items until you reach your accommodation for the night.
The lodges provide options for evening meals at your own cost in their restaurant. Both Furneaux Lodge and Punga Cove Resort also have an extensive range of local New Zealand wine and beer. Breakfasts, either continental or cooked is available each morning. The lodges accept cash and credit cards.
DAY 1 - Picton - Ships Cove to Furneaux Lodge
Approx walking time- 16Km's - 5.5 hours
Pick up from local accommodation.
Boat transfer from Picton to the start of the track at Ship Cove/Meretoto.
Begin the walk at Ships Cove and learn about the historical and natural aspects of this area.
Fabulous 360 degree vistas as you walk amongst tree ferns and Nikau palms to your accommodation for this evening at Furneaux Lodge, an historic lodge that has been greeting guests for many years.
DAY 2 - Furneaux Lodge to Punga Cove Resort
Approx walking time- 11Km's - 4.5 hours
After a relaxed breakfast you make your way around the bay to Punga Cove Resort.
Discover the fascinating antimony mining history of this area.
The highlight of this afternoons walk is the abundance of native bird life along this section of the track. You may even have the opportunity to meet one of New Zealand's cheekiest native birds, the Weka.
Overnight accommodation at Punga Cove Resort. A choice of dining either in their boatshed bar and café or in the restaurant with fabulous views of Endeavour Inlet.
DAY 3 - Punga Cove Resort to Picton
Approx walking time- 23Km's - 7.5 hours
Today you have two options. Either transfer back to Picton by morning water taxi arriving around lunchtime or walk 23kms to Torea Bay and get a boat back to Picton at 4.45pm.
Both options require a minimum of two guests.
The third days section of the track involves expansive ridge top walking with stunning views for the majority of the day. Considered the most challenging day of the trip yet extremely well rewarding.
